A desperate dog owning couple from Swindon have set up the UKs biggest missing pet hunt. So far, they have hired all the staff of the UK's main pet training service, set up two 24-hour stakeouts and also delivered 1,500 leaflets and visited 300 homes. Read more here.

According to a recent article on the BBC, 'A woman who ran a pet crematorium in Derbyshire has been jailed for eight months for dumping the bodies of her customers' pets in a field.' The court heard how she invoiced a veterinary firm for over 91,000 over a period of around 3 years for disposal of waste and carcasses.

The Telegraph has picked up an unusual story relating to a dog trainer in Germany. According to this article: "An animal trainer for German television and movie productions has come under fire for teaching a dog called Goldie to give the 'Heil Hitler!' salute."

According to an article in the Daily Mail, 200 cows have been found dead in Wisconsin as a result of eating mouldy sweet potatoes. Although there seems to have been an unusually large amount of reported mass animal deaths so far this year, this incident is not related to any of the other instances.

According to the Telegraph, the declining numbers of hedgehogs in the UK has prompted some experts to warn that these animals could become extinct. A number of initiatives are being rolled out over the country to try and prevent this from happening.

Although Downing Street previously had the well-equipped services of Humphrey the cat ('Chief Mouser to the Cabinet Office') to help keep rat problems at bay, it appears that the government will not be replacing him to catch the latest rodent spotted running up the road. Read more here.

According to a recent article, a horse (aptly named Mischief) had to be rescued from swimming pool by firefighters after becoming trapped. Luckily, the horse was safely rescued and is now back with its owner.
