An expert line-up will share the latest thinking on horse welfare.
A free video series bringing together experts from across the equine sector is set to return for a third season.
Horses Explained, produced by World Horse Welfare, offers practical and accessible guidance on giving horses a good life at every stage.
Equine reproduction specialist James Crabtree and animal welfare scientist Aline Bouquet are among the expert speakers sharing the latest insights. They will be joined by vet and behaviourist Gemma Pearson, veterinary behaviourist Ellie Girgis and veterinary surgeon Nicky Housby Skeggs.
The experts will discuss key topics ranging from breeding, foaling, weaning and young horse care, to working horses and caring for veterans. This season will also highlight World Horse Welfare’s vision for the responsible involvement of horses in sport — an evidence-informed guide setting out the principles to follow to ensure a horse’ physical and mental wellbeing.
Rebecca Boulert, education officer at World Horse Welfare, explained: “The latest series of Horses Explained explores what it really means to give a horse a good life from birth to death. That is central to our vision for responsible horse sport, because good welfare cannot begin at a competition venue – it has to run through every stage of a horse’s life, from breeding and early handling to training, work, retirement and end-of-life decisions.”
