Data sought from vet businesses to fund CMA remedies
The RCVS has been tasked with supporting and monitoring compliance of the CMA's remedies.
The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) has written to veterinary businesses requesting information as it calculates levies to fund the CMA’s remedy package.
It comes after the CMA publishes its Funding Order on August 20, following a consultation period. Veterinary businesses now have until September 4 to share relevant information with the RCVS.
As part the Funding Order, which was open for consultation from 30 June to 30 July, the CMA decided that the RCVS should perform certain activities to support and monitor compliance.
It was also decided that the costs incurred by the RCVS would be funded by a levy on qualifying veterinary businesses. The CMA’s final report announced that small animal first opinion practices would contribute an ‘equal share’ to the fundings, with business paying in proportion of the number of FOPs they operate.
The RCVS Funding Estimate for 24 March 2026 to 31 March 2027, including a contingency, was set at £1,575,000.
Following the consultation, the CMA published its final Veterinary Services Market Investigation (Funding) Order 2026 on 20 August 2026. The Levy Commencement Date followed on 21 August 2026.
The Initial Levy Payment, according to the Funding Order, will be £349.43.
All qualifying veterinary businesses which were active on 21 August 2026 must now submit business and contact information in writing to the RCVS. If any of this information changes after submission, the business must inform the RCVS within 28 days.
If businesses have not received the RCVS’ email, or has queries about compliance, they can contact the RCVS at cma-help@rcvs.org.uk
