RCVS to improve customer service

College appoint new Customer Experience Manager

The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) has appointed Nicola South, to carry out the new role of Customer Experience Manager.

Newly created, this position at the RCVS is intended to help improve the experiences of vets, veterinary nurses and the public in their dealings with the college.

Speaking of the appointment, CEO Nick Stace said: "Nicola brings to the college a wealth of customer service experience gained from the hotel and tourism industries.

"Improving our customer service delivery is a priority, and I am delighted to have Nicola on board who will help to champion these improvements across the organisation."

Commenting on her new role, Nicola added: "I'm extremely excited and proud to be joining the staff at the RCVS, and at such a significant time, just as the First-Rate Regulator initiative is underway, which will lead to a change of focus in how we deliver our services to meet all of our customers' needs."

"My arrival has been met by a staff made up of extremely dedicated and passionate individuals, and I'm really looking forward to working as a team to deliver an improved customer experience for everyone," she concluded.

Nicola has joined the RCVS from Orbit Group Ltd., where she was Service Excellence Advisor for the East and South Region.

Animal Medicines Amnesty returns this November

 Veterinary practices are being urged to help owners safely dispose of any unused and expired pet medicines - not just antibiotics - during November's Animal Medicines Amnesty.

Organised by the Responsible Use of Medicines Alliance Companion Animal and Equine (RUMA CA&E), the initative is supported by a range of cross-sector organisations.

Practices are encouraged to use the campaign to engage the whole practice team and raise awareness of the safe disposal of medicines with clients. Learn how your practice can get involved at rumacae.org.uk

Bluetongue RZ extended across Scotland

The Scottish Government has announced an extension to a Bluetongue Restricted Zone that is in place in south-west Scotland.

From 3 October, the Restricted Zone will be extended to cover the whole of Scotland. The Animal, Plant and Health Agency (APHA) says this is in response to further disease spread, as well as simplify trading conditions ahead of the autumn.

Since the whole country will share a disease status, it will no longer be necessary to have a movement license to move susceptible livestock around the country. Restrictions on germinal products remain.

As of 1 October 2026, there were 1,979 cases of BTV-3 in England, 389 cases in Wales and 40 cases in Scotland.
