BVA Congress gets underway in Liverpool

The annual Congress of the British Veterinary Association (BVA) commenced yesterday Thursday 27th September, with a welcoming address and award ceremony at Liverpool's Merseyside Maritime Museum.

The Congress opened with a speech from current BVA President Carl Padgett, followed by the presentation of the BVA's prestigious awards.

The CPD programme begins today (Friday 28th September) and will commence with key speaker Professor The Lord Trees, whose talk is entitled 'Delivering a healthy future from the inside out.' Two programmes will run side by side: the clinical programme and the contentious issues programme, and there will also by a commercial exhibition running until 5pm on Saturday.

The BVA Wooldridge Memorial Lecture will focus on 'Interests in common: the veterinary contribution to public health', and speakers over the two day event will include Michael Seals, Professor David L Heymann and Nigel Gibbens to name just a few, as well as speakers from the University of Liverpool.

The Congress banquet will be held on Friday evening and promises to be a sparkling event.

New form for online veterinary medicines retailers

The Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) has produced a new online form for retailers wishing to sell veterinary medicines on the internet.

The form replace the previous Word version and is part of the VMD's ongoing commitment to digitise its processes. Anyone retailing prescription medicines online, including POM-V, POM-VPS and NFA-VPS categories, is lawfully required to register with the VMD before trading.

The change only applies to new applicants. Retailers already listed on the VMD's Register of Online Retailers or registered under the Accredited Internet Retailer Scheme (AIRS) do not need to do anything.
