BSAVA advises early interest in Postgrad certificates
Last year's places filled in 20 minutes

The British Small Animal Veterinary Association (BSAVA) is encouraging anyone who is considering applying for a place on the second year of the BSAVA Postgraduate Certificates in Medicine and Surgery to register their interest and plan their enrolment to avoid disappointment.

Places for the first year filled in twenty minutes and those students are now well underway in their studies. Only 30 students were accepted into each of the programmes in 2012, to ensure an excellent quality of teaching and student support. In 2013 the number of courses available will be doubled to allow a new intake of students without compromising class size.

Andy Nelson, a student on the course, said: “I would recommend it, I’d say go for it. You’ll learn lots, get to know like-minded people to share experiences with, and be able to make a real difference to what you do on a day-to-day basis.”

Competition for the new places is likely to be fierce. Applications can be submitted from 9am on Monday 1st October 2012 via the BSAVA website and will be submitted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Defra shares new Sanitary and Phytosanitary guidance

News Story 1
Defra has published guidance for the vet sector ahead of a proposed UK-EU Sanitary and Phytosanitary agreement.

The agreement, which will change the movement and trade of animals and related products, could see reductions in checks, paperwork and certification. As well as describing regulatory developments, the advice highlights the importance of animal ID, registration and traceability in disease control and other compliance arrangements.

The guidance can be found here. More detail is expected as negotiations progress.

New form for online veterinary medicines retailers

The Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) has produced a new online form for retailers wishing to sell veterinary medicines on the internet.

The form replace the previous Word version and is part of the VMD's ongoing commitment to digitise its processes. Anyone retailing prescription medicines online, including POM-V, POM-VPS and NFA-VPS categories, is lawfully required to register with the VMD before trading.

The change only applies to new applicants. Retailers already listed on the VMD's Register of Online Retailers or registered under the Accredited Internet Retailer Scheme (AIRS) do not need to do anything.
