RCVS announces new CEO
The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons has announced that Nick Stace has been appointed Chief Executive and Secretary - a new role created after the departure of long-standing Registrar, Jane Hern, and the McKelvey Report.
Mr Stace, who has spent the last three and a half years as Chief Executive Officer at CHOICE, Australia's equivalent of consumer group Which?, will take up the post on 3rd September 2012.
He commented: "It is an enormous privilege to be leading an organisation that seeks to ensure Britain has the best vets in the world. The College has a special place in the lives of every vet in the country, it also has a responsibility to animals and consumers to set high standards and ensure they are met. I look forward to helping the College continue to improve veterinary standards across the country and to lead the College through its next stage of development.”
A long-standing consumer champion, Mr Stace led CHOICE into the number one spot as the most trusted media entity in Australia, as well as counting director of Consumers' International and director of Strategic Communications for former PM Gordon Brown amongst his previous roles.
RCVS President Jerry Davies expressed his delight at Mr Stace's appointment, saying: "I believe we have a Chief Executive who will lead the College into a new phase of modernisation and development. I am grateful to the Interview Panel, led by Council member Dr Barry Johnson, for all their hard work in securing this excellent appointment."
One of the first tasks for the new CEO will be to assist in the recruitment of the Head of Legal Services/Registrar, another new role for the College.
Two independent vets have launched a podcast to help owners strengthen their bond with pets. Dr Maggie Roberts and Dr Vanessa Howie, who have worked in both veterinary practice and major charities, are keen to use their experience to enable people to give pets a better life.
