Award for Pet Blood Bank UK
Charity honoured for entrepreneurship

Vets Now has been awarded the 'Social Entrepreneur of the Year' Award by the Scottish Business Awards for its work in founding and supporting the lifesaving charity Pet Blood Bank UK. The charity, which was pioneered by Vets Now employee Wendy Barnett, has collected approximately 9,000 units of blood since its foundation five years ago and held 164 dedicated collection sessions in the last year alone.

Pet Blood Bank UK personnel also been praised for their role in educating veterinary surgeons and nurses in the field of transfusion medicine. In addition to collecting and storing blood for operations and transfusions, Pet Blood Bank UK also provide lectures, educational talks and professional guidance. Now Head of Clinical and Professional Services at Pet Blood Bank UK, Wendy Barnett said "At the heart of our charity is a real desire to ensure that should a dog need blood there is a supply available and I'm delighted that our work, and the support of our many doggy donors and their owners, has been recognised through this award.”

 The WSAVA has invited veterinary professionals to a webinar on responsible antibiotic usage in dentistry.

On 19 November 2025, at 1am, Dr J Scott Weese and Dr Brooke Niemiec will share the latest advice for antimicrobial use. They will present research on oral bacterology, and explain how attendees can choose appropriate antibiotics.

The session will cover pre-, intra- and post-operative guidelines, with recommendations for various pathologies.

The webinar is designed to support veterinary professionals to make informed decisions and tackle antimicrobial resistance.

Dechra launches checklist for veterinary sustainability

Global animal health specialist Dechra has announced the world's first Veterinary Green Theatre Checklist (VGTC) to help make surgery more sustainable.

Endorsed by leading veterinary organisations, including the BEVA, BVNA and RCVS Knowledge, the checklist is designed to reduce the environmental footprint of veterinary care, while supporting better animal health outcomes.

The checklist was launched at the World Congress of Veterinary Anaesthesia and Analgesia in Paris and will be followed by an internal training and awareness campaign. For more information, visit dechra.com
