Pfizer Practice Management Academy launched
Online courses in management disciplines offered

The launch of a new online Practice Management Academy has been announced by Pfizer's Vet Support+. The new Academy will offer e-learning online training in the management disciplines vital to run a veterinary business and help it thrive.

Twelve courses covering the fields of Marketing, Client Relations, Staff Management and Financial Operations are being offered to participants, who can elect to study individual courses, focus on specific areas of management, or enrol in the Practice Management Academy outright. A Pfizer Business Consultant will serve on each course as an online expert tutor to facilitate the participant's learning experience.

Commenting, Director Business Innovation at Pfizer Ned Flaxman said "Using an E-Learning platform is a well-trodden path, ideal for busy individuals wishing to improve or gain new practice management skills without leaving the surgery, or sofa. However, unlike some e-learning which can leave the participant feeling like they are gaining theoretical know-how only, and working in somewhat of a silo, our Academy offers an 'online campus'. This provides a flexible, convenient and supportive training environment for shared theory and practical learning with other colleagues from the veterinary profession under the guidance of e-tutors and experts."

As well as describing regulatory developments, the advice highlights the importance of animal ID, registration and traceability in disease control and other compliance arrangements.

The guidance can be found here. More detail is expected as negotiations progress.

Lords Committee opens Pet Parasite Medication inquiry

The House of Lords Environment and Climate Change Committee will launch its inquiry into Pet Parasite Medication (PPM) on Wednesday (3 June).

Focusing on treatments containing fipronil and imidacloprid, the inquiry will seek to understand distribution pathways and the impacts of PPM use and non-use on biodiversity and human health. It will also cover current regulation, monitoring, and the potential implications for pets and their owners.

The committee will hear evidence from environmental non-governmental organisations and research institutes. The public can follow the proceedings live on Parliament TV or in person in the Palace of Westminster.
