2011 CVPM Exams – Three Honoured
Certificate in Veterinary Practice Management awarded to three entrants.

This year's examinations for the prestigious Certificate in Veterinary Practice Management were held on 2nd December and three entrants have met the necessary standard to merit the awarding of the CVPM.

Six candidates elected to sit the examination either in whole or in part, and this was the last opportunity to take the traditional CVPM written exam. This year's CVPMs are Lucy Bartlett of Scott Dunn's Equine Clinic, Lisa Marter of the Arundel Equine Hospital, and Louise O'Hara of the Windmill Veterinary Centre.

The inclusion of the above now means that there are 64 holders of the CVPM, which was first instituted back in 1996. The official presentation of the awards will be at the VPMA Congress Dinner on 27th January 2012 at the Chesford Grange Hotel of Kenilworth in Warwickshire.

For the first time, the Glynn Davies Memorial Award will also be given on behalf of the VPMA to the most outstanding candidate. Next year's examination will be held on the 30th November 2012 and notification of intention to sit this exam must be received by 5th October 2012.

Changes in the Certification and Training Committee have also been announced. Peter Gripper MRCVS has stepped down as Joint-Chairperson after six-years dedicated service, for which the committee have expressed their special thanks. He will be replaced by Alison Hoy CVPM. Also, Julie Beacham CVPM and John Goulding MRCVS have joined the Committee as new examiners.

Germany livestock import ban lifted

The UK government has amended its ban on the import of livestock, meat and dairy products from Germany.

Defra said the decision follows 'rigorous technical assessment' of the measures applied and the current situation. "If the situation changes, we will not hesitate to take necessary action in response to the FMD outbreaks in the European Union to protect our domestic biosecurity," it said.

The ban was implemented in January following an outbreak of foot and mouth disease (FMD) near Berlin. Personal imports of meat, milk and dairy products will remain in place at a country level.
