Hunt Begins for Poultry Veterinarian of the Year
New global award for young poultry veterinarians is announced.

The World Veterinary Poultry Association is launching a new, global award for veterinarians.

The WVPA Young Veterinarian of the Year 2012 award will be presented at Poultry Focus in Asia next February. The award - to be judged by a panel of global experts - is open to qualified vets who are below the age of 35 on the 31st December 2011.

Dr Trevor Bagust, the President of the WVPA believes the award will help to highlight the high standard of veterinary care at work in the poultry industry.

He said: "Maintaining excellent bird health and welfare is at the very heart of efficient poultry production and so veterinarians have a key role to play in successful poultry businesses."

He added: "This new award will look for individuals who have the dedication, motivation and flexibility that modern poultry veterinarians must have in order to add value to the businesses they serve. We are looking for individuals who go beyond best practice; individuals who are an integral and invaluable part of the businesses they support."

The winner will receive 5000 US dollars towards travel and accommodation expenses for attending an international scientific/technical or continued professional education meeting of their choice.

New form for online veterinary medicines retailers

The Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) has produced a new online form for retailers wishing to sell veterinary medicines on the internet.

The form replace the previous Word version and is part of the VMD's ongoing commitment to digitise its processes. Anyone retailing prescription medicines online, including POM-V, POM-VPS and NFA-VPS categories, is lawfully required to register with the VMD before trading.

The change only applies to new applicants. Retailers already listed on the VMD's Register of Online Retailers or registered under the Accredited Internet Retailer Scheme (AIRS) do not need to do anything.
