Call For Farm Vets to Complete VDC Survey
Farms vets are being asked to fill in a survey on large animal practices in the UK.

The Veterinary Development Council has joined forces with the BVA to organise an online poll in order to identify the different types of business models used within large animal practices across the UK.

The VDC is charged with investigating the future of farm animal practice and its working group is headed by John Fishwick, the president of the BCVA.

He described the aim of the survey as aiming to get a "snapshot of the types of large animal practices that are out there in the UK - the plan is to then get a report together summarising the types of practice and their possible advantages and disadvantages."

The survey should take between 10 and 20 minutes. Questions include the proportion of practice turnover generated by private and Government work, as well as management models and out-of-hours cover.

Professor Fishwick urged vets to get involved, saying: "We're really anxious for as many practices to participate as possible."

You can access the survey here.

News Story 1
Defra has published guidance for the vet sector ahead of a proposed UK-EU Sanitary and Phytosanitary agreement.

The agreement, which will change the movement and trade of animals and related products, could see reductions in checks, paperwork and certification. As well as describing regulatory developments, the advice highlights the importance of animal ID, registration and traceability in disease control and other compliance arrangements.

The guidance can be found here. More detail is expected as negotiations progress.

New form for online veterinary medicines retailers

The Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) has produced a new online form for retailers wishing to sell veterinary medicines on the internet.

The form replace the previous Word version and is part of the VMD's ongoing commitment to digitise its processes. Anyone retailing prescription medicines online, including POM-V, POM-VPS and NFA-VPS categories, is lawfully required to register with the VMD before trading.

The change only applies to new applicants. Retailers already listed on the VMD's Register of Online Retailers or registered under the Accredited Internet Retailer Scheme (AIRS) do not need to do anything.
