Defra Appoints New VRC Members
Defra has announced that Jonathan Statham, a partner of Bishopton Veterinary Group in Yorkshire, has been appointed as one of three new members to the independent Veterinary Residues Committee.
The VRC is an expert committee which offers advice to Government Departments and oversees the UK's surveillance for residues of veterinary medicines in food.
Jonathan Statham will join John Points, an experienced laboratory manager with extensive knowledge of veterinary residues analysis, and Dr Stella Walsh, a representative of the Food Standards Agency and Department of Health Scientific Advisory Committee for Nutrition (SACN) and currently teaching food retailing and marketing at Leeds Metropolitan University.
The three new members will serve from September 2011 until December 2014. They each have not declared any political activity during the past five years.
