Validation During Christmas Period
New deadlines for validation
The VMD has noted over previous years that there is a sharp increase in the quantity of applications received just before the Christmas holiday period.

This year, in order to manage the situation more effectively, we have decided to implement the following deadlines for validation:
    •    If you wish for your application to be considered for validation during the Christmas period, the VMD must have received it on or before Tuesday 21st December 2010.

    •    The last validation meeting to discuss applications for new Marketing Authorisations (MAs) will take place Thursday 23rd December 2010. There will be no validation meeting the week commencing 27th December 2010.

    •    Any applications received after 21st December will not be considered for validation until the week commencing 3rd January 2011.

This policy will apply to new MAs as well as variation applications. In addition, if you are planning to submit a European application (in particular, a grouped or worksharing variation application) in the weeks leading up to Christmas, it would be appreciated if applicants could inform the General Assessment Team in advance so that we can plan our resources appropriately.

Please note the VMD will be closed on 24th December and not re-open until 29th December.

New form for online veterinary medicines retailers

The Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) has produced a new online form for retailers wishing to sell veterinary medicines on the internet.

The form replace the previous Word version and is part of the VMD's ongoing commitment to digitise its processes. Anyone retailing prescription medicines online, including POM-V, POM-VPS and NFA-VPS categories, is lawfully required to register with the VMD before trading.

The change only applies to new applicants. Retailers already listed on the VMD's Register of Online Retailers or registered under the Accredited Internet Retailer Scheme (AIRS) do not need to do anything.
