Animal Welfare Heroes Honoured at RSPCA Honours
From wildlife heroes and branch volunteers to an undercover reporter who infiltrated the world of organised dog fighting, the RSPCA Honours 2010 celebrate the extraordinary work of people dedicated to improving animal welfare.

The awards were presented at a special ceremony at the RSPCA’s headquarters in Southwater, Horsham, West Sussex.

Winners include:
  • Trevor Williams, The Fox Project, Pembury, Kent – Elsie MJ Evans Bronze Award

  • Reverend Professor Andrew Linzey, Oxford – Lord Erskine Silver Award
Andrew has pioneered a pro-animal attitude in the Church of England and organised a conference that focused on the links between cruelty to animals and violence to humans
  • Demi and Georgia Stevens, Bonymaen, Swansea – Charlotte Wright Award

  • Steve Ibinson, Newtonabbey, Northern Ireland – Richard Martin Gold Award
The late Steve, an undercover reporter, was key to a hugely successful RSPCA Special Operations Unit operation. He spent 18 months infiltrating the horrific world of organised dog fighting, leading to the RSPCA’s successful prosecution of nine individuals, five of whom were sent to prison

RSPCA chief executive Mark Watts said: “The work carried out by the RSPCA could not be done without the goodwill of the nation and the dedication of the people here today. It’s vital we recognise them and celebrate their efforts and achievements.”
