Alistair McGowan to Compère Vet Awards
“I’m really looking forward to hosting what I hear will be a very glamorous and unforgettable evening,” says McGowan.
Top-rated comedian and impressionist Alistair McGowan is to compère for the 2010 Petplan Veterinary Awards, for which there have been over 1800 nominations.

The 11th annual Petplan Vet Awards, which celebrate the veterinary sectors top professionals across the UK, will be held on the 8th of April as part of the BSAVA Congress in Birmingham. Previous compères for the awards include Jason Manford, Michael McIntyre and Frankie Boyle.

McGowan is best known to British audiences for The Big Impression which was, for four years, one of BBC1’s top-rating comedy programmes – winning numerous awards, including a BAFTA in 2003.

“I’m really looking forward to hosting what I hear will be a very glamorous and unforgettable evening,” says McGowan.

Petplan’s Marketing Manager Alison Andrew says, “The Petplan Veterinary Awards are an opportunity to recognise the tireless and outstanding work of veterinary staff.

“We’re all excited about having Alistair as our compère this year, who I’m sure will keep everyone highly entertained on what will be another glittering awards ceremony.”

This year over 1,800 nominations, from customers and colleagues, have been received for the following categories – Vet of the Year, Vet Nurse of the Year, Receptionist of the Year and Practice of the Year.

Defra shares new Sanitary and Phytosanitary guidance

 Defra has published guidance for the vet sector ahead of a proposed UK-EU Sanitary and Phytosanitary agreement.

The agreement, which will change the movement and trade of animals and related products, could see reductions in checks, paperwork and certification. As well as describing regulatory developments, the advice highlights the importance of animal ID, registration and traceability in disease control and other compliance arrangements.

New form for online veterinary medicines retailers

The Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) has produced a new online form for retailers wishing to sell veterinary medicines on the internet.

The form replace the previous Word version and is part of the VMD's ongoing commitment to digitise its processes. Anyone retailing prescription medicines online, including POM-V, POM-VPS and NFA-VPS categories, is lawfully required to register with the VMD before trading.

The change only applies to new applicants. Retailers already listed on the VMD's Register of Online Retailers or registered under the Accredited Internet Retailer Scheme (AIRS) do not need to do anything.
