RCVS launches new workplace mental health course
Angharad Belcher, RCVS Director for the Advancement of the Professions and MMI.

The course will be introduced at the 2026 VMG Congress.

The RCVS has announced a new free course on managing workplace mental health.

Launching at the Veterinary Management Group (VMG) Congress (22-24 April), the ‘Managing Mental Health in the Workplace’ CPD course has been developed by the RCVS Mind Matters Initiative (MMI) and Academy Teams, alongside expert partners.

A 90-minute introductory session will take place on 23 April as part of the ‘Grow Stream’, during which delegates will learn how to foster a mentally healthy workplace. Session topics will include recognising and responding to early signs of mental health problems, as well as applying communication skills to facilitate supportive conversations.

Also at the VMG Congress, the RCVS will be showcasing its new-look MMI branding, designed to help the professions understand that all MMI work is engrained
within the College.

The new branding aligns with the shield and typography of the new RCVS brand, while maintaining its signature green colour palette.

“Over the last ten years, MMI has established itself as a trusted go-to resource for veterinary professionals seeking to increase their knowledge on mental health and the impact it can have on both a personal and professional level,” commented Angharad Belcher, RCVS Director for the Advancement of the Professions and MMI.

“The new brand helps integrate the work of MMI more comprehensively under the main RCVS umbrella, as the project plays a key role in the College’s overall supportive and preventative approach to regulation – tackling the cause of problems before they become issues and supporting veterinary professionals to be the best they can be.”

The VMG Congress takes place 22-24 April in Stratford-Upon-Avon.

The House of Lords Environment and Climate Change Committee will launch its inquiry into Pet Parasite Medication (PPM) on Wednesday (3 June).

Focusing on treatments containing fipronil and imidacloprid, the inquiry will seek to understand distribution pathways and the impacts of PPM use and non-use on biodiversity and human health. It will also cover current regulation, monitoring, and the potential implications for pets and their owners.

The committee will hear evidence from environmental non-governmental organisations and research institutes. The public can follow the proceedings live on Parliament TV or in person in the Palace of Westminster.
