Chester Zoo hatches rare chameleons

(C) Chester Zoo
Conservationists at Chester Zoo have hatched 10 rare Parson's chameleons, with 17 eggs still in incubation. The species are the world's largest chameleon, and is native to Madagascar. It is believed to be the first time a UK zoo has hatched a Parson's chameleon, which is no easy feat - the species hold the record for the longest incubation period, nearly 600 days.
The conservation team had to carefully replicate the seasonal variations of Madagascar to mimic the same conditions they would have in the wild, and the team believe that the skills and techniques developed to hatch this rare species have the potential to help save other species from extinction.
