BVA announces sustainability webinar series
"It’s important the veterinary community is aware of both the impact the profession has on the planet and the opportunities they have to help reduce this" - Justine Shotton, BVA president.
The series will provide practical tips for veterinary workplaces.

The British Veterinary Association (BVA) has announced a new webinar series aimed at helping veterinary workplaces become more sustainable.

Launching on Wednesday 23 March, the Greener Veterinary Practice Webinar Series follows a BVA Voice survey, which found that workplace engagement on sustainability is important to more than half of vets.

The six-part series kicks off with an episode on ‘Empowering the team’, with practical tips for encouraging colleagues to work towards a more sustainable workplace.

BVA president Justine Shotton will be joined by BVNA senior vice president Jo Oakden and VDS training consultant Elly Russell to explore the benefits of becoming greener in the workplace, the positive impact on mental wellbeing, and ensuring sustainable ways of working to support patient safety.

The sessions will be released monthly, with topics including the responsible use of medicines, using water and energy responsibly and how to help others make greener choices.

Dr Shotton said: “We all have a vital role to play in making our workplaces more sustainable, and it’s important the veterinary community is aware of both the impact the profession has on the planet and the opportunities they have to help reduce this.

“Becoming more sustainable may seem daunting at first, but there are so many really simple steps you can take which really make a difference to all employees and workplaces, as well as the environment.

“The webinars will be a fantastic opportunity for anyone interested to find out more information on how to involve their colleagues and see how their workplace could begin the journey to becoming more sustainable and environmentally friendly.”
