Boehringer Ingelheim joins the International Poultry Council
The IPC brings together poultry industry stakeholders from across the world to build relationships and share challenges.

New membership will help to promote global confidence in poultry products

Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health has joined the International Poultry Council (IPC) as its new associate member.

IPC is a member-driven organisation which represents more than 88 per cent of the world poultry meat production and 95 per cent of the global poultry meat trade.

Jérôme Baudon, global head of poultry at Boehringer Ingelheim, said: “We are very proud to be part of IPC which brings together poultry industry stakeholders and represents a unified and harmonized voice of the poultry sector. Its mission fits well with our commitment to shape the future of poultry well-being and health through disease prevention.”

Established in 2005 in the city of Cologne, Germany, the IPC is committed to promoting science-based solutions and sharing information among poultry producers and regulatory authorities on global issues which affect the supply chain.

Boehringer Ingelheim hopes that this membership will help it to bolster it's participation in the poultry industry worldwide. It aims to utilise it's products, services and veterinary expertise to help poultry producers produce quality poultry meat and eggs.

IPC president Robin Horel added: “IPC is delighted to welcome Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health, a leader in poultry health, with a global footprint around the world.

“We are convinced that the company will be a strong voice of the poultry industry on the main topic related to the poultry value chain and will contribute to a fact and science-based approach to public policy and international standards, impacting the poultry sector on food safety, sustainability, animal health and animal welfare."

BBC Radio 4 documentary addresses corporate fees

BBC Radio 4's File on 4 Investigates has released a documentary exploring how corporate-owned veterinary practices may be inflating bills to increase profit.

Released on 15 April, 'What's Happening To Your Vet Bills?' revealed the policies which many corporate groups have in place to increase their profits. This included targets and upgrades which veterinary teams are tasked with meeting on a regular basis.

It also features Anrich Vets, an independently-owned practice based in Wigan. Following the case of Staffordshire terrier Benjy, who is diagnosed with a tumour, the documentary shares how the team were able to offer contextualised care and advice to make the procedure as affordable as possible for his owners.

The documentary can be heard on demand on BBC iPlayer.
