BSAVA announces virtual regional CPD
The Regions Now series will comprise of 12 online events organised by the BSAVA's regional committees.
Regions Now sessions will be delivered via Zoom.

The BSAVA has announced a comprehensive programme of virtual regional CPD.

Launching in September, the Regions Now series will comprise 12 online events organised by the BSAVA's regional committees. Each event starts with a one hour pre-recorded lecture, available up to a week ahead of the main live session.

The live session will run for around 90 minutes and will be delivered through the Zoom app, followed by a question and answer session. An online discussion forum will also run for a week after the event, in which participants can offer their observations on the lessons learned and describe their own experiences.

Programme creator Beckie Smith, said: “One of the main attractions of the Association‘s regional CPD activities is the sense of community that has built up around the local groups, which gather the various regional meetings. This is something we are keen to maintain as we adopt new approaches to CPD provision in the virtual world.”

The first event is being organised by the East Midlands Committee and will focus on feline infections. The online content for this will be available from Monday 7 September, ahead of the main event the following Monday.

Sessions are free for BSAVA members and £50.00 (incl. VAT) for non-members. Events are open to members around the country, but the particular region hosting the event will receieve priority booking.

BBC Radio 4 documentary addresses corporate fees

BBC Radio 4's File on 4 Investigates has released a documentary exploring how corporate-owned veterinary practices may be inflating bills to increase profit.

Released on 15 April, 'What's Happening To Your Vet Bills?' revealed the policies which many corporate groups have in place to increase their profits. This included targets and upgrades which veterinary teams are tasked with meeting on a regular basis.

It also features Anrich Vets, an independently-owned practice based in Wigan. Following the case of Staffordshire terrier Benjy, who is diagnosed with a tumour, the documentary shares how the team were able to offer contextualised care and advice to make the procedure as affordable as possible for his owners.

The documentary can be heard on demand on BBC iPlayer.
