Former doctor and comic Adam Kay backs 'Share your NHS Story' fundraiser
Comic, writer and former doctor Adam Kay is lending his support to a new BEVA initiative calling on members of the veterinary profession to share their 'NHS stories' to raise funds for NHS Charities Together.
The This is Going to Hurt author has also been announced as a keynote speaker for the rescheduled BEVA Congress, which takes place 16-19 January 2021 at Birmingham's ICC Arena.
“I was delighted to hear that the veterinary profession has committed to fundraise for NHS Charities Together and support their colleagues who look after humans,” said Adam. “BEVA's 'Share Your NHS Story' is a wonderful campaign and I know will be appreciated by NHS frontline staff who are working harder than ever.”
The "Share your NHS Story” initiative calls on all veterinary professionals to share their own NHS story with BEVA and donate to NHS Charities Together.
BEVA president Tim Mair said that he was inspired to start the project when he discovered that Adam Kay was compiling and editing an anthology of the NHS experiences of one hundred inspirational people, including Stephen Fry, Dame Mary Beard and Sir Paul McCartney.
All profits from Adam's book entitled Dear NHS: 100 Stories to Say Thank You, will go to NHS Charities Together and The Lullaby Trust, which supports parents bereaved of babies and young children.
“We have all seen the amazing work, above and beyond the call of duty, that NHS staff have been doing during the Covid-19 pandemic,” said BEVA president Tim Mair. “However, it has been costly in terms of the mental and physical health of our NHS colleagues.
“That is why we, as fellow health care professionals, want to show our solidarity and support for the NHS. BEVA represents a relatively small but important segment of the veterinary profession in the UK, and we have committed to raise funds for the NHS Charities Together, which supports and champions the various different NHS charities.”
