'We need to find our inner voice'
Stacey Bullock
If elected to VN Council, Stacey Bullock hopes to see a more standardised to veterinary nurse training.

VN Council hopeful shares her future aims

Veterinary nurse Stacey Bullock is among six candidates hoping to be elected to the VN Council in this year's upcoming elections. If elected, she hopes to see a more standardised approach to veterinary nurse training, as well as improved efforts to empower veterinary nurses.

Adding value to the RVN
Speaking to VetCommunity, Stacey said she would like to see every practice team member helping to add value to RVNs by empowering them to carry out the tasks for which they are trained.

"They are extremely under-utilised and therefore morale runs low," she explained. If nurses were empowered within practice, she believes it would reaffirm the need for qualified nursing staff in all practices.

Germany livestock import ban lifted

The UK government has amended its ban on the import of livestock, meat and dairy products from Germany.

Defra said the decision follows 'rigorous technical assessment' of the measures applied and the current situation. "If the situation changes, we will not hesitate to take necessary action in response to the FMD outbreaks in the European Union to protect our domestic biosecurity," it said.

The ban was implemented in January following an outbreak of foot and mouth disease (FMD) near Berlin. Personal imports of meat, milk and dairy products will remain in place at a country level.
