Five years of research and development behind upgrade of practice management system

AT Veterinary Systems has announced the release of the Spectrum Release 5 DDS™upgrade of the popular veterinary practice management system.

As the second major release of Spectrum software this year, Spectrum DDS is the result of over five years research and development by the software laboratories at AT and has been designed to bring new levels of computing performance and resilience to veterinary practices.

The system allows practices to create any number of computing nodes which then seamlessly integrate and function as one system. This cluster architecture is said to have a number of advantages for practices. As the performance of each node is independent of the others, in the rare case that internet connection is lost branch practices can continue to function normally with data transactions resuming when the line is restored.

With Spectrum DDS branch surgeries can run at network speeds of over 1000 MB per second, multiple servers ensure continuity of service takes priority and data can be accessed anywhere and anytime.  For mobile and out of hours veterinary services, having clinical and prescribing information at hand can be useful if not essential and a laptop computer running as a Spectrum DDS node provides the answer.

All these performance benefits are in addition to the Spectrum’s leading veterinary applications running on the latest Apple Mac and Windows operating systems, built on rock solid UNIX foundations.

Germany FMD import restrictions eased

The UK government has lifted the import restrictions placed on FMD-susceptible commodities from Germany.

The decision comes after the country was recognised as foot-and-mouth disease free without vaccination on 14 May.

Imports of FMD-susceptible animals and their by-products from Germany were originally banned, after the country reported a case of FMD near Brandenburg in January. In March, the UK government permitted imports from outside of the outbreak zone.

Germany will now be able to import FMD-susceptible animals and their by-products into the UK, providing they meet other import conditions.

The decision follows rigorous technical assessment of measures in Germany. Defra says it will not hesitate respond to FMD outbreaks.
