Practice Today showcased at Congress 2014
Practice Today
Over 1,600 delegates received their free CPD journal at BSAVA Congress

This year's BSAVA Congress proved a great success for Vision Media's new CPD Journal for veterinary surgeons, nurses and practice managers – Practice Today.

Over the four days, delegates had the opportunity to become a member of MRCVSonline and VNonline in order to receive their free subscription to Practice Today. Attendees also had the chance to win an iPad mini, and we are very pleased to announce the lucky winner as Charlotte Webb from Park Vets, Cardiff. Be sure to keep an eye on the MRCVSonline and VNonline websites for future member competitions and benefits announcements.

Feedback for the second issue of our CPD journal from delegates and exhibitors alike was hugely positive. Articles of particular interest included Karen Wild's guide for first aid behavioural advice in practice; clinical CPD from Owen Atkinson for diagnosing SARA and monitoring rumen health; a second-part study of humane euthanasia of exotics from Tom Dutton and Neil Forbes; and an interview with Petplan's head of sales and partnerships Simon Masding on the issues affecting the pet insurance industry.

The MRCVSonline and VNonline editorial team were also out in force bringing readers and Twitter followers the latest developments from the profession and relaying BSAVA's “global outlook” as this year's theme for Congress. If you missed any of the action, catch up now by clicking on the related news links below.

The next issue (Autumn) of Practice Today will be available from September 2014. For your free subscription to Practice Today, click here.

BVA urges 'continued vigilance' over bluetongue

The British Veterinary Association (BVA) has urged vigilance following a concerning rise in Bluetongue (BTV) cases in sheep and cattle.

In a recent statement, the BVA noted that members are reporting more severe clinical signs and higher mortality rates than in previous years.

'We know that farm vets are working hard to support farmers and animals affected by this outbreak, during what is an extremely difficult time for all involved,' they stated. 'Continued vigilance to identify disease early is vital and vaccination remains the best way of protecting animals from this disease.'
