Vet student society secures sponsorship
Support for students extended

NOTTINGHAM University's Veterinary Society has a new official partner in the form of a large corporate group.

Merged joint venture group Vets4Pets and Companion Care will sponsor the students' society for the coming academic year.

Gary England, dean of Nottingham vet school, said: "The Nottingham Veterinary Society plays a crucial role in both academic and social activities of veterinary students at the Sutton Bonington campus. It is essential the society has adequate support and I am delighted to see that Vets4Pets has agreed to provide sponsorship for this academic year; undoubtedly this will see the society continue to flourish.”

According to a statement from the joint venture group, the merger resulted in the resource to run, develop and host more events and projects aimed at supporting veterinary students. The company aims to provide more support with lectures, seminars and advice on job hunting and CV writing. It also said that plans were in place to extend support to all the UK veterinary schools through activities including the delivery of business seminars to veterinary undergraduates.

Graeme McConnell, the group's head of partnerships south, said: "The close relationship we have with Nottingham vet school is very unique and we love supporting the students in any way we can, we look forward to supporting even more universities in the future."

First BTV-3 case of 2026/27 season confirmed

 Livestock keepers are being urged to stay vigilant for Bluetongue (BTV-3) following confirmation of the disease in a ewe. The case, confirmed in Staffordshire on 23 June 2026, represents the first confirmed case of infection this summer.

The APHA said: 'The risk of Bluetongue spreading has increased so we urge all livestock keepers in GB to familiarise themselves with the nation specific bluetongue control policies and movement requirements that currently apply.'

New form for online veterinary medicines retailers

The Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) has produced a new online form for retailers wishing to sell veterinary medicines on the internet.

The form replace the previous Word version and is part of the VMD's ongoing commitment to digitise its processes. Anyone retailing prescription medicines online, including POM-V, POM-VPS and NFA-VPS categories, is lawfully required to register with the VMD before trading.

The change only applies to new applicants. Retailers already listed on the VMD's Register of Online Retailers or registered under the Accredited Internet Retailer Scheme (AIRS) do not need to do anything.
