'Every veterinary professional knows someone whose commitment and passion have inspired those around them.' - Adam Gow.
The British Small Animal Veterinary Association (BSAVA) has officially opened nominations for its 2027 veterinary impact awards.
It will accept nominations recognising remarkable individuals in eight categories until 8 January 2027.
The awards ceremony, which is now in its 65th year, celebrates outstanding achievements from across the profession. This includes those who have made an impact on small animal practice, veterinary science, education and animal welfare.
The BSAVA will accept nominations from both BSAVA members and non-members. The winners will be announced on February 2027.
The categories are:
• The Bourgelat Award – recognising outstanding international achievement to small animal practice or science in their widest context
• The Simon Award – recognising contributions to the advancement of all aspects of small animal surgery
• The Woodrow Award – recognising significant contributions to the advancement of small animal medicine
• The Des Thompson Award – recognising individuals who have had a significant impact upon general practice and/or their community
• The Blaine Award - For contributions to the advancement of all aspects of non client facing small animal veterinary medicine.
• The BSAVA Veterinary Nurse Award - Recognising outstanding contributions to the advancement of small animal veterinary nursing.
• The Ray Butcher Award - For a non-veterinary individual who has been an ‘unsung hero’ by making a significant contribution to animal welfare in the community.
• The J.A. Wight Memorial Award - For a qualified veterinarian who has made an outstanding contribution to the welfare of companion animals.
Adam Gow, BSAVA member trustee, said: "Every veterinary professional knows someone whose commitment and passion have inspired those around them. The BSAVA Awards are an opportunity to celebrate these individuals and the difference they make every day.
“If someone has had a positive impact on your profession, practice or community, we encourage you to nominate them."

Veterinary practices are being urged to help owners safely dispose of any unused and expired pet medicines - not just antibiotics - during November's Animal Medicines Amnesty.
