BEVA opens ticket sales for Christmas CPD event
This year's theme will be sport horse vettings.

The event combines festive celebration and professional development.

The British Equine Veterinary Association (BEVA) has launched ticket sales for its Christmas Cracker CPD event in December.

The two-day event will take place from 19-20 December, as part of London International Horse Show at ExCel London.

It aims to combine a social Christmas party atmosphere with educational professional development opportunities. BEVA members will be brought together to learn, share ideas and catch up with colleagues.

This year’s theme will be sport horse vettings, examining the challenges involved with Pre Purchase Examinations (PPEs) of sport horses and how to tackle them.

The format is strongly discussion based, with delegates encouraged to share their PPE experiences, upload cases in advance, and bring images to the event.

Events on 19 December will investigate the leg, foot, back and sacroiliac, focusing on imaging from acquisition to interpretation. Speakers will include Vanessa Peter, Peter Milligan and Sarah Boys-Smith.

The first day will close with an open discussion, followed by a drinks reception.

The second day of the event will focus on image acquisition and interpretation of the neck, respiratory noise and cardiology. Richard Hepburn, Emmanuelle Van Erk, Philip Cramp and Sarah Boys-Smith will speak on the topic, and the course will conclude with an open discussion and summary.

There are one-day and two-day tickets available on the BEVA website, with ticket options for different memberships and non-members. Delegates will also get 50 per cent off evening performances.

All non-member tickets will include a 12-month digital BEVA membership.

Researchers launch survey on bleeding in XL bullies

 Researchers at the University of Surrey are investigating reports of bleeding problems being seen in XL bully dogs following neutering operations.

Some XL bully owners on social media have reported their dogs experiencing problems during operations and there has been anecdotal evidence from some veterinary surgeons.

An anonymous survey has been launched for veterinary surgeons to share their experiences of performing any surgical procedures on XL bully dogs in the last 12 months.

RCVS course explains concerns process

A free, online course from the RCVS Academy has been launched, designed to clarify RCVS' concerns procedure.

The content will give veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses a better understanding of the process, and what they can expect if a concern is raised about them. It includes details of common concerns.

The interactive resource has been developed in collaboration with Clare Stringfellow, case manager in the RCVS Professional Conduct Team.

Ms Stringfellow said: "We appreciate that concerns can be very worrying, and we hope that, through this course, we can give vets and nurses a better understanding of the process and how to obtain additional support."

The course can be accessed via the RCVS Academy. Users are encouraged to record their learning for CPD.
